The finishing technique will allow for lighten somewhat by removing more of the “distressing” which appear black. While made of quarter sawn oak, which is characterized by a straighter grain pattern and medullary “flake” figure, this particular piece does not exhibit a great deal of the medullary figure.
The oil and wax finish will age well and develop more patina with time. Additionally, a new coat of oil and/or wax can be added anytime to “freshen up” the table as it ages. This is a very livable finish meant to be used.
